Course Overview - 9 days

In todays rapidly changing business environment, managers need to be equipped with interpersonal skills, professional skills and interactive competencies, as well as with practical tools. To this end, we at John Seymour Associates (JSA) have developed a BTEC Advanced Award in Developing People Skills in association with Edexcel. This programme has been designed to help practising or potential managers to develop their people skills to handle a wide variety of situations.


Q. Who will the Course Benefit?

This course will benefit existing and potential managers involved in hands on people / team management and development.


Q. What skills will the participtants gain?

Participants will learn how to:

  • Developing Leadership:
    This unit introduces the skills and knowledge needed to lead people in an organisation. It focuses on the practical application of the best known and most useful theories and frameworks, recognising the need to operate within the context of organisational values, culture, policies and practices.
  • Managing Communication, Handling Conflict:
    This unit introduces participants to the core skills of communicating effectively, preventing and dealing with situations of conflict and effectively managing selection interviews
  • Managing Employees, Equality and the Law:
    This unit summarises and describes important concepts and factors in Employee Relations. Additionally, the critical legal aspects of equality and fairness are outlined, and participants will be introduced to procedures for dealing with grievance, discipline, dismissal, discrimination, harassment and bullying, the implications of the law relating to maternity and disability.
  • Supporting Learning and Development:
    This unit covers two core skill sets. Firstly, the knowledge, skills and behaviours participants need to become effective people developers, and to promote a learning culture within their organisation. Secondly, the skills of instructing and coaching others.
  • Handling Meetings and Groups:
    This unit summarises and describes two skill sets. Firstly, the skills of planning and leading meetings and secondly the skills of managing group interaction and group dynamics.
  • Managing Self and Personal Development :
    This unit introduces participants to two core skill sets for managing oneself and taking responsibility for personal growth and development. The core skill sets are Managing Self and Developing Self.
